Manetuck Elementary School and Oquenock Elementary School celebrated and honored the nation’s heroes during their respective Veterans Day ceremonies on Nov. 7.
At Manetuck Elementary, students invited veterans to be guests at a special breakfast. Principal Ms. Williams welcomed all the veterans and thanked them for their service. American Legion members and local Cub Scouts presented the Color Guard. Fifth graders Samantha Apap, Amelia Quigley and Adelaide Bomberger shared their Veterans Day writing with attendees. Students and their invited guests then enjoyed a breakfast together.
Clad in red, white and blue and proudly waving their flags, Oquenock Elementary School began its celebration with an outdoor parade of students, faculty and staff members. Local veterans and students then headed to the cafeteria to enjoy breakfast before listening to performances from the fifth grade orchestra, fifth grade band and fourth/fifth grade chorus. Honored guests in attendance included Suffolk County Legislator Steve Flotteron and Suffolk County Veteran of the Year Lou Andrade.
