Paul J. Bellew Elementary Designated as Kindness School

Paul J. Bellew Elementary School has been certified as a Kindness School by The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. During the past two months, students have worked together to make a kindness quilt, write letters of gratitude to others in the community and show empathy for one another. After sending information about their positive acts, the school was officially designated as a Kindness School. The certification will be displayed in the front lobby to remind students of the importance of kindness.

Girls Basketball Finishes Season Strong

Congratulations to the West Islip varsity girls basketball team and coaches Chris Scharf and Kristen Doherty on a great season. The Lions won 11 games and had an incredible second half to their season, winning five of their last seven games to earn a playoff spot. Courtney Xippolitos made school history, becoming the West Islip High School leading scorer with 1,250 career points! Also making history was Coach Chris Scharf, who reached the impressive milestone of 200 career wins with the team’s regular season victory over league champion Smithtown West on January 31. The team was awarded the 2025 Section XI Sportsmanship Award for League IV.

Udall Road Middle School celebrated National Foreign Language Month with a colorful and creative door decorating contest organized by the English as a New Language department. This year’s theme, “Languages Take You Places,” inspired students to explore the beauty of languages from around the world and showcase their creativity.
The contest saw active participation from students and teachers across the school, with eighth-grade English Language Learners stepping into the role of judges. Congratulations to the winners:

1st place: Mrs. Carbon’s sixth grade class, room 225
2nd place: Mrs. Canonico and Mr. Loudon’s class, room 227
3rd place: Mrs. Traver’s class, room 103

The first-place class enjoyed a bagel breakfast, while the second- and third-place winners were treated to lollipops as a reward for their efforts.

This event was not just a fun way to celebrate National Foreign Language Month, but also a meaningful reminder of the importance of language learning in fostering a diverse and interconnected world. 

Udall Road Middle School continues to promote diversity and global understanding, emphasizing the value of language learning and cultural exchange in preparing students for success in today’s world.
